| By Manmit Exam fever catches in the city[LUDHIANA] Come March and exam fever touches new high. No T.V no movies its exam time in the city .Besides this butterflies turn to fly in the stomach and gives queasy feelings. Difficult subjects and topics are revisited so that one doesn’t miss on important notes Sure shot questions are revisited too The more one concentrates the more it tends to filter out as fast it enters the brain .This is the common feeling of the youngsters of the city which people associate with “exam phobia” .Says Jasloveleen class 10 student of PAU Senior Secondary School” it is a difficult time of the year I m so tense that I keep forgetting everything. I don’t know how I will score in my exams as I m doing my best to concentrate I have to get good percentage and make a good future .Another student Gurleen her class mate says” I wake up early so that I get more time to study and mornings are good time for concentration. But she is missing her entertainment too she says I watch TV at intervals as it helps in breaking stress but has cut it down as I have to put up more hours Talking to the parents revealed they are even more tensed Says Jyotsana mother of a 10class student Savita revealed” It has become a testing time for the family too we have discontinued our social activities as I want to be with my child she may become careless and lose out on studies if I my not around We don’t even invite friends and relatives as it distracts the child. As the year started we have barred her from TV we have also sacrificed our TV hours As the children seemed stressed out a talk to the psychiatrist revealed some things related to stress in exam days Dr Rajeev Sharma in charge of psychiatry department at Guru Tegh bhadur hospital at model town says “Parents attaches the worth of their children with securing high marks in exams and this is inculcated n the children from lower classes .As a result the child gets tense when the exams are nearing. He feels that he will lose the love and respect of the parents if he secures less marks .Informs him” In the examination days daily 3 to4 cases of stress in children are reported to me. When the stress level is high the child complains of depression and anxiety which results in lose of appetite and performance level lowers .For such children counseling and medicines work .We do our best to save the Childs academic year and also asks the parents to put less stress on them. . |
